Eilean Donan Castle.

We have been to the Highlands of Scotland many times now and we always find our way to arguably the most photographed Castle in Scotland; you don’t need to look any further than the traditional Christmas/New Year (New Year as it is traditionally eaten with a wee dram) shortcake tin. No matter where you go, you will always find a tin of shortcake with a photograph of this castle – Eilean Donan Castle. You would be forgiven for thinking that it has stood intact for centuries guarding Loch Duich from all-comers, but you would be wrong…. The current castle has been extensively rebuilt from absolute ruin. It is still very pretty though:-

Old Photographs scanned from slides.

I used to love slide film – I really got into the differences in colour properties between Fuji Velvia @ iso 50 and Astia with it’s more neutral colours (Velvia gave warm sumptuous colours. Now I am all Digital – if I want those differences, I have to play around in Photoshop) – and what of all my slides?

Early on I bought myself a film scanner (or two) – a flatbed scanner with a backlight for big slides and I later bought a dedicated film scanner. Now, many years after I “went digital” I am still scanning slides when I get the time. Here are a few of them:-

Hows about that then?

Today’s photo of the day is Alnmouth TM 001 by paul2210This photo caught my eye because of the great use of light in the composition. The eye is drawn to the different textures of the sky and reflections of light in the water.

The lighting itself is perhaps the most intriguing element, capturing the sunset perfectly.

Northumberland 2011 – Continued.

I took so many photographs when I went to Northumberland in March 2012 that I am still processing them now. Many of these have been Tone-mapped – that is a process to increase the dynamic range. I haven’t been particularly subtle with these but I like the effect – a lot of other people do to – in a sort of “Marmite” reaction sort of way. Please let me have your thoughts:- do you like the effect or not?ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
